Chase Sapphire Preferred – 50,000 Ultimate Rewards Points Sign up bonus
Wanna fly to Europe for free? Open this card, use it, get the 50k points, transfer them to an airline, fly to Europe using those points.
This Chase offer for their Sapphire Preferred card gives 50k Ultimate Rewards points after spending $3000 within 3 months of opening the card. Annual fee of $95 waived for the first year.
Chase’s Ultimate Rewards program can be likened to the American Express Membership Rewards program. The points can be used to book travel directly at 1 cent per point, but Chase offers a 25% bonus when booking through the Ultimate Rewards site. For example, you can book $625 worth of travel instead of the face value of $500.
You can also transfer these Ultimate Rewards points to a variety of loyalty programs such as:
-Continental (which is now becoming United Airlines)
-InterContinental Hotels Group (Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites etc.)
Personally, I’m torn between transferring them to Continental OR transferring them to British Airways. I’ve pointed out before why I’m not fond of British Airways and their fuel surcharges, I would use these British Airways miles on Cathay Pacific. Remember to always consider the partner options of whatever airline you transfer these to. Continental is part of Star Alliance, British Airways is part of OneWorld. I won’t be using these Ultimate Rewards points for hotels because I’ve pointed out how easy it is to get cheap hotels in my Liberated Traveler Series #3 – Hotels. Oh yeah, I’ll pass on the Amtrak too.
This card will be coming with me when I travel as well because it has no foreign transaction fees. This and my American Express Platinum will be my primary cards for when I travel. While the Sapphire has nowhere near the level of benefits of the Amex Platinum, it is definitely a good card to have around.
One of my favorite features of this card is that it has something called a “Points Dividend.” Basically, you earn a 7% points bonus on the points you earn from each year. Also, when you call them for help, someone actually answers the phone when it rings. You don’t have to type in the card # on your phone, which is probably the most annoying thing in the world.
They are currently giving 2 points per dollar on travel & dining purchases, and 1 point for every other dollar you spend.

If you have any trouble getting approved, call their reconsideration line (888) 245-0625. Find out why you were denied, than offer to cancel an existing Chase card (if you have one) or to transfer some of your credit from one card to another. Ask for their help on getting you approved.
Tip: If you are planning to apply for multiple credit card offers to get all these awesome sign up bonuses going around, apply all on the same day so that way the different inquires won’t show up just yet and affect you. I personally save up a batch of cards I want and apply for them all on one day, every 3-4 months.
